Mastoloni Pearls (Est. 1924) In its Linked In profile. The company writes, “The Mastoloni family has been selling wholesale pearls and designing pearl jewelry with passion, care and craftsmanship for over three generations. Revered for meticulous design and craftsmanship, we are proud to be one of the oldest, most reputable sources for quality wholesale pearls and pearl jewelry in North America. With an unparalleled selection of the finest quality cultured pearls, we are able to supply virtually any pearl desired.”
The Mastoloni story began in the mid-1920s. It was during this time that Frank Mastoloni, Sr. and his brothers founded a company – Frank Mastoloni and Sons, Inc. – dedicated to their worldwide search for exotic materials including coral, cameos, jade and ultimately, cultured pearls. It took about twenty years before Mastoloni made the move to specialize in the ‘new’ cultured pearl phenomenon. He was one of the first in the world to concentrate on cultured pearls.
In the 1950s, Mastoloni’s sons and son-in-law joined the business. Together they built a company based on the principles of quality, fair dealing, and innovation.
It was in the 1960s when Mastoloni began collecting perfectly matched, extra fine South Sea Pearls with the hope of creating a masterpiece of contemporary jewelry. Year after year, one single pearl at a time, Mastoloni continued his efforts until twelve years later, the dream was realized. Mastoloni created the ultimate three strand South Sea Pearl necklace, comprised of 107 exquisite gem-quality matching South Sea Pearls, ranging in size from 10.3 to 15.2 millimeters.
By late 1970 Mastoloni had developed its own designs and brand becoming renowned for meticulous design and craftsmanship. In the 1980s the third generation joined the business to keep the tradition going.
Frank, Sr. died in 2013 and was feted as a world-renowned expert in pearls. He was born in 1926 in Brooklyn, NY. After graduating from St. Francis Prep high school, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. When he returned, he attended Fordham University, where he graduated in 1951 with a degree in business administration. Throughout his life, he remained a supporter of the school.
In 1952, shortly after graduating from college, Mastoloni made a multi-week trip to Tokyo that would both set the stage for his career and that would be repeated many times over the years. He and his brothers grew Mastoloni Pearls into one of the industry’s leading cultured pearl suppliers.
The Mastoloni family played a large part in the founding of the Cultured Pearl Association of America (CPAA) in 1957. Frank Mastoloni was among the original founding members and his sons, Frank and Ray, and grandson, Francis are all former presidents.
The CPAA was founded with the intention of cultivating awareness, interest, demand, and successful marketability of cultured pearls at both the retail and consumer levels. The organization is a non-profit group comprised of the finest manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, dealers, and supplier of cultured pearls in the US. Through promotion, education, public relations and commitment, the CPAA inspires a passion for all cultured pearl varieties.
Frank was also was a regular guest speaker at the Gemological Institute of America. In 1975, the government of China—then a closed nation—invited him to consult on its nascent jewelry and pearl industry.
Mastoloni also visited Burma (now Myanmar) on an annual basis for 25 years, where he received a special award from the government in recognition of his contributions to business there, especially the pearl and jade auctions. His wife, Maryann Paradise Mastoloni, accompanied him on many of these trips, including the trip to China in 1975 and on a 1987 trip to Burma that was the focus of a feature in National Geographic magazine.

Mastoloni selects their pearls primarily for their quality. Just as brilliance shows off diamonds, so lustre shows off pearls. Lustre is more than a surface gloss: it is the light and life of a pearl that permeates the gem and it is the concentric layers of pearl nacre that produce an iridescence that reveals its beauty.
Each cultured pearl possesses an importance of its own. When matched together, the total quality reflects a value that cannot be compared to any other type of gem. When combined with 14kt and 18kt Gold, it becomes a fashion statement that radiates charm and elegance.
Mastoloni Pearls specializes in exquisite Akoya and freshwater cultured pearls from both Japan and China as well as the exotic beauty of South Sea and Tahitian pearls. They select every pearl first for its quality and its own beauty and luster. Pearls brought together in a fine pearl creation show off this beauty and luster and cannot be compared to any other type of natural gem.
